Peter Here is another interesting end game position. It comes from Alex Cvetkov's book Pawn Endings (I've found it very helpful)It's based on what he refers to as the "moving square to win rule" although paradoxically this is a drawn game. [D]8/8/3k4/7p/p1P2ppP/Pp2Pp2/1P3P1K/8 w - - Many computers play exf4 which loses to 1exf4 Kc5 2f5 Kd6 3Kg3 Ke5 and black captures both disconnected pawns. On 1e4 however given that only one square separates the pawns white manages to draw. I would assume all this sort of info is written into chess programmes. Cheers Allan
