I have received a complaint via the moderator request form about a number of long threads containing lengthy arguments. Along the lines of "Is this trip necessary..." I would request that people who want to argue have the following options: 1. Send an email. If the difference is personal and between two individuals, that would really be the ideal way to settle it. 2. Just forget it. Is it really worth the fuss to try and win the argument? 3. Apologize. Perhaps the ruffled feathers just need a bit of smoothing. It takes a big person to do that, but I suspect that all of the regulars here are up to that challenge. 4. Go ahead and post your message. Sometimes, that really is the right thing to do. Obviously, it's a judgement call. But before you take option #4, (if the _real_ meat of your reply is an argument) please ask yourself: "Is this post necessary, or can I take one of those shortcuts..." Just a thought, and you're welcome to tell me to go jump in the lake. The denizens of CCC are (for the most part) highly intelligent and interesting people. I suspect that if we apply ourselves, we can find extremely productive outputs for our creativity. Though I have not given the threads a careful going over, I can tell by the titles that some people are not happy with one another. But are the issues really worthy of public argument, or could they be straightened out in some other manner. It's your call. I won't step in unless I get specific complaints. Which brings up another point: If you have any specific complaint, please use the moderator request form, give us the message number, and tell us exactly what it is that is objectionable. Believe it or not, I can be incredibly dense about that sort of thing.
