Some people already question how much power the moderator has. To add more
would surely add fuel to that fire.

To edit a post and make it acceptable is such a tough judgement call, that I
don't (personally) want to attempt that responsibility. Should I change a swear
word to something lower but still derogatory? Where is the exact line to draw
in editing?

The time needed to personally alter files to create a sanitized forum would be
prohibitive, I think.

It is not a responsibility that I would accept. And if some moderators did
accept it, I think it would cause more problems that it would solve.
