A couple of days ago, in the thread called "recognising patterns in chess", we discussed ways to make a machine that was fully self learning of chess, and would not therefore require a programmer to put in knowledge bit by bit, laboriously tuning it to work with existing knowledge as they go. Thses ideas differed from previous discussions in that, for the first time I have ever seen, we came up with a way of doing it which was both practical and implementable. This should have been one of the biggest sensations at CCC ever - instead the thread was ignored and it died out.
