I think it is nearly impossible to explain what goes on at a computer chess
event to someone that has not been 'baptised in fire'. I almost always showed
up at ACM and WCCC events sick. Due to staying up 20 hours a day for weeks
prior to the event, tweaking everything possible and testing like mad. Then
the tournament is between computers. The operators "don't count". I can't
count the number of times we got out of a round to find _zero_ places to eat
open. Good for room service if it is available. But at 2am and beyond, even
they say "go away".
