I remember having such a problem with Rebel Decade 3 and I made it work by
giving a small hash size parameter ("rebel w1" if I remember correctly).

The same problem occured with other DOS programs (Virtual chess comes to mind)
that try too get memory size to know how much hash can be allocated.

Of course all this stands for "real" DOS mode only as I have never managed to
make some of these programs work under Windows without starting in DOS mode.

Hope it helps.
