Presumably you meant they should be opposite (bad for you = good for me).

If the goal of both players is to win rather than to draw, then it is
advantageous for both players to unbalance the position.  People usually minimax
on a single score though, and one way (though perhaps not the best way :-) to
head for unbalanced positions is to fudge the score being backed up.
