The only way I can think of is to load them via the "Load User Book"
item in the "BKS" menu.

Book scores are based on learning and previous analysis, but they can be
misleading nevertheless if they are based on very few games or very
shallow analysis. Therefore virtually no program will stubbornly follow
"best score lines" exclusively (except Crafty which you can configure to
do so).
It's always a good idea to have some variety.

Rebel indeed _is_ slower accessing books than MChess or Chessmaster etc.
However, unless your system is very slow and you're using one of the
very big books that come with Rebel9, that should not be a problem.
For blitz games, you should stick with Rebel's main book rebel.mvs.
For tournament games, even a very large book should not pose too big
problems
(unless you leave it on the CD :-).
