I think so.  I looked at Gnu a few years back and it was doing:

    val[pcTo] - pcFrom

and sorting this from high to low.  In this case a pawn is 0, knight is
1, bishop is 2, rook is 3, queen is 4, and king is 5.

Assuming that traditional values are used for pieces (100, 300, 300,
500, 900), PxR is 500, RxR is 497, QxR is 496, QxB is 296, and PxP is
100, so you got them in order.
