Go up one level in this thread
Dear Mark, You are totally correct. I probably should use a computer to study and learn, but I'm just too much a creature of habit to change. So far, I've reached my present level on my own, so it's a personal challenge so see if I can go any farther on my own. I hope you understand. I have nothing against using computers to study, although I'm still troubled about the morality of their use in Correspondence Chess. I suspect the real reason that I don't use computer software for training is that I'm possibly too stupid to know what to do even if I had the proper software. I'm not patient enough to read computer manuals, I'd rather just turn the machine on and play. Truthfully, I do own an archaic computer at home and it does have an older Chess Assistant on it and Bookup. I do almost all my opening work with Bookup. It comes with Zarkov, which is very weak (slow) on my old computer, but does work for a decent blunder checking device when I enter data. I also have Hiarcs 3 on the computer, but it causes my screen to freeze up, so I haven't used it in years. Mark, if I fail in my ICCF World Championship Semi-Final games this spring, then I'll have to learn to use computer tools to improve. But if I continue to score well in ICCF play, then I may never change! Thanks for your interest, Stephen
