Hi Mark,
first I concluded from for the first time no Genius being included in the new
Millenium package . In the meantime Ossi Weiner has confirmed that Richard Lang
stopped development of Genius for the time being in a German Chess forum .
My personal impression has been that serious Genius development ended with
Genius 3 for quite some time .

Mr Weiner says it is because of the amount of people distributing illegal copies
of his programs and thereby destroying market ; yet this doesn't sound
convincing .
I personally suspect he simply lost interest after some 20 years of doing the
same old thing , but this is based on no facts .

Same here . I was a Genius fan for a long time . And even now when others have
taken over it is still quite special and seems to understand a few things better
than the competitors.
Genius is great in positional evaluation and endgame.
It seems to me that due to a low branching factor at higher plies it can't
profit from the better hardware as much as the new programs do .
Still , it is a world champion , and this _does_ mean something ( similar to
human chessworld ) . Just as playing against Karpov probably is a much tougher
challenge than playing against another player with similar ELO .
Game in 1 hour , played on 2 PIII500 :

This game is a good illustration that Genius is still one of the opponents with
a high probability to show your weaknesses and let you look a little silly .
Probably it is 14. .. Kh7 , 16. ... Bb8 ? , 23. ...g5 ? but the important thing
IMHO is that Tiger seems to enjoy some static potential against the human king
when there simply is nothing in reality.
It is the worst spanking of Gambit Tiger I have seen so far.
Regards.
