First of all, a Happy New Year to all! I must say that my heart is with
Anand as well. His feel for the game and his play enable him to produce
tremendously beautiful games even against the strongest opposition and
it's a pleasure to watch him in action. I think the funniest thing about
the match is that in my opinon, the biggest unknown here is the veteran
Karpov. Little play, and highly inconsistent at that, the favourite is
assuredly Anand here, BUT it will all depend on how Karpov plays. Anand
of course must also be extremely tired so I geuss it's pretty much a
craps shot. As for the decision by blitz, Kasparov really must be
laughing his head off. Can you imagine if the FIDE world champion is
decided by a 5 minute game? This would not only completely detract from
the value of the title but it would make FIDE the laughing stock of all
sports federations around the world. Kasparov no longer needs to
continue his efforts against FIDE. FIDE is clearly capable of destroying
itself without anyone's help.
