I am saying I believe Genius will play the same style of chess with or without asymetry. My contention (working hypothesis) is that most of Genius playing style is tied to it's evaluation function. I am suspecting that the evaluation function MIGHT be asymetrical because that will greatly influence the playing style. I do not believe the asymetrical search has a large efffect on the the playing style, but pehaps a very minor affect. Genius is stronger tactically than a LOT of other programs and yet is much less agressive than some of these others. If a program is aggressive by nature, this behavior will show up at any level and is not search based. There is some room for doubt in my mind. I will not cling to my point of view if I hear some good arguments to refute it. But right now I'm pretty certain that the search phenomenon is a separate issue. -- Don
