I have also noticed myself that Crafty which with it's large hardware speed
advantage don't do that well against computers. This could be in part the blitz
time controls or is it possible that Crafty has been tweaked in someparts on the
advice of GM's and that while increasing it's performance against humans has
weakened it against computers?. Currently Crafty's rating is as low as I have
ever seen it.

I think from what I've seen Crafty is much stronger in blitz games against
humans than any other program on ICC. It seems to lose rating points when
playing computers and gaining them playing humans which as you say the other
computer accounts have trouble with. Though I think it's probably also true that
those other computer accounts play a higher percentage of their games against
other computer accounts.
