Yes, if somebody what to obtain the highest speed possible.

Still, theoretically, old program must run well. Something that happened few
times. Once it happened when computers, after having 8 bits registers, started
to have 16 bits. And later when computer started to have 32 bits long registers.
Intel, until now, permitted to make old program mainly readable by keeping new
registers easely dividable into 8 and 16 bits parts.
