Sometimes Win98 has been know to freak out after some firewall programs, or even some games are installed. I know if you install EA Sports NFL 2000 on Win98, and you have black ice defender installed, you are going to have major problems. I see this often when doing tech support calls. If I were you, I would stick in my Win98 CD, choose to "repair" Windows. This will only take about 20 mins on a decent speed computer. After that, check to see if anything has changed.
