It doesn't matter how fast the m/c is if the program is not upto it you will not get any thing near GM playing strength. The program is just as important, if not considerably more important than the hardware. Even on slow hardware, i.e. 200 MMX if the program is one of the top notchers, e.g. Tiger, Rebel....ahem...:-)) you may still get a very high standard of play if you are prepared to leave the program to analyse for a considerable amount of time. Another factor is the amount of hash ram you make available to the program. Another factor is the operating system that you plan to run on the machine. All these factors and others I haven't mentioned have an influence on the playing strength of the machine. You have not mentioned how you wish to use the program. If you plan to use on the Internet then you require a program that can manage this facility. Several programs have this facility, Chess Tiger is one of them. So your question is not an easy one to answer with the limited info you have given. I'm sure if you ask the right questions and give some more info an answer to suit you will be provided. Keith
