Almost all this test suite material that is going around was done ages
ago by anonymous people. This one is 879 positions copied from a book
(the ECM) and is only part of it. There are others, like ECE3, 1800
positions which is only vol 3 out of an endgame encyclopedia. Who are
the wonderful people who did this great work long ago and why did they
stop ? Today, everybody seems to be only interested in selecting a few
handpicked positions, and spend most of their effort in attaching a
formula and a theory to them. OK, quality counts, but so does quantity !

We also have to thank the Deep-Blue team for taking the WAC suite and
thoroughly amending it. The original Reinfeld version is available and
is so full of errors that it would never have been useful. This was one
of their greatest contributions to CC. To my knowledge no other work was
done on investigating the correctness of suites.

I am coming to the suggestion: Providing large and well-tested suites
from the many written sources is something that the ICCA can do to
advance the field. It can seek volunteer help or set funds to pay for
this work, and use its web-site and magazine to publish. I am suggesting
it to the Programmer Advisory Committee (or however it's called).
