Speed is crucial in chess programming and MSVC will produce faster compiled code over Borland. Rather the speedup amount is worth it or not; I do not know. I always use MSVC. p.s. To take advantage of the compiler options for optimized code, you must have Professional or Enterprise edition, standard does not cut the mustard. Sean Empey
