Please use .tar.bz2 (tarred, then bzip2ed) or at least .tar.gz/.tgz (tarred, then gzipped). bzip2, gzip, and tar are available all PC and unix platforms, not 100% sure about macs. gzip and tar even are part of the unbiquitous "winzip".
