This is the source of a lot of conflict between you two, and you'd no longer
have to conflict about this if you understood what Chris is getting at.

If the goal is to catch as many fish as you can, you will use a different
fishing technique than if your goal is to have a more spiritual fishing
experience. Its valid to do either as long as you accept either goal.

If your goal is to win 65% of games, rather that 60%, your method may be
different than if your goal is to have an absolute hoot 30% of the time,
regardless of whether you win or lose these games.

Regarding CST, if someone says, this is going to score more than 50% against
some other program, I am skeptical. But if they say, this program will do
something weird, romantic, and un-computerlike at least once if you watch it for
a while, you bet.

At least that is what I assume from games that Thorsten has shown us over time.
There was one where CST went down a lot of material in order to create an attack
out of nothing. I believe it won the game, but the opponent defended
inaccurately, and so CST should have lost. This is a success or a failure
depending upon how you look at it: From my point of view, this is a success.

I'm not responding to the other silliness in the post you responded to.
