I know it's not a top commercial program, but KChess is the dumbest program I've ever played. I beat it in less than 20 moves a few nights ago in a blitz game and I ain't a very good chess player at all. Maybe I've picked up something recently though in getting wiped out a dozen or so blitz games every day by CM 7000 and Fritz 6. I hadn't played chess at all in 10 years, not on a computer and not with people, until a few months ago, and CM and Fritz have made it fun again. I used to be able to beat one of those Fidelity small computers, but I don't know how good that meant I was back then--I don't think it meant much. As far as the top commercial programs I've got, I'd have a hard time saying whether Fritz or CM is dumber, to tell you the truth. I guess that would be a toss up. About once a week I do like to win a game, and what I would like to know is which program can best be dumbed down? I mean, I've dumbed down Fritz and CM--on CM, I mean, playing lower rated personalities--and it looks to me like on Fritz and CM there's some more work to be done. Both programs seem very inconsistent--like, doing something really stupid and then making some moves that a dumb player would not make. RC
