Yes, Virtual Chess II is a very strong french chess program.
Sadly, it has not been updated since 1997 (IIRC), and stopped to participate in
the french championship that year.
It had regularly won the french championship before it stopped participating.
I think the authors (Marc-François Baudot and Jean-Christophe Weill) are still
working on it. Marc-François participated with Virtual Chess in the WCCC 99
(Paderborn).
