I currently have 2 computers, one at work, and one at home.I bought both one year ago and it amazes me how much CPU technology has advanced in the last year. Anyhow, one is a 542 overclocked celeron, 128 ram ,17 gig HD,8 video ram. The other is a 450 Pentium III, 128 ram, 20 gig HD,8 video ram. I feel as antiquated as the SSDF must feel. I can upgrade to a Pentium III 833,256 ram,32 MB video ram for 750.00 US ,all installed on my Celeron machine. My other willcost 835.00 US .The increase is because one is a Gateway (Hateway??!!).My current motherboard on both machines is a 440BX.They tell me that is to be replaced also as part of the price quoted. The new one will have "Flip Chip Technology" good for CPU'S up to approximately 1.2 GHZ. So some room for future (inexpensive?) upgrades. So my limit will be 1.5 times upgrade speed before new computer or another motherboard replacement. My question is am I better off getting a dual processor mother board with maybe 2 600 Pentium III's that allows upgrade capabilities up to 733 or 800Mhz (times 2) of course. My operating system on both machines is Windows 98 2nd edition. My intended chess usage is to play engine vs engine matches on the same machine. I primarily use Winbord engines ( about 20)and CM all versions,8000 to be shipped.I am also purchasing Rebel 11 pkg,Shredder 5,and am waiting for news on Fritz 7 release to determine if I should purchase that also. ANY comments, advice, remarks will be greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance. Paul Doire
