I partly agree with you that we should enjoy the programs we have and don´t devote much time into chosing the number 1, but that´s human nature. Just look at all sports, World Championship in Soccer(Futbol), Icehockey, Basketball etc.. Olympiads, National championships etc.. Everything to get that number one team(in this case program). The problem is that almost everybody "accepts" the outcome of a Worldchampionship in, let say, soccer, but not in chess. There are many reasons obviously.
