You know it's possible to choose between several piece sets.
Depending on your resolution and the size of the chessboard, try a different
piece set and you might find a better looking one.
It worked for me, at least. I was not happy with the default piece set because
size-streching made it look strange, but I have found another one that did well.

I think it would be possible, but it would require some extra work.
I prefer to spend the extra effort in improving the playing strength or the
playing style.
