The basic values in Rebel for the midgame are: 0.75, 3.00, 3.00, 4.75, 8.75 In the endgame I use other values. But this doesn't mean much as the evaluation function corrects every piece value depending on the position of course. The at first strange looking 0.75 value for a pawn (for example) prevents a bad exchange of a bishop or knight against 3 pawns. After evaluation pawns in the midgame can vary from 0.25 till 2.00 and in the endgame the maximum is about 3.50. For a general understanding of Rebel's score I would say the good old 1,3,3,5,9 rule is applicable. - Ed - >Does it make sense to compare eval scores across programs? ie:"this >program does better here because of its +4.55 eval versus this >other program at +3.62". In reality for program X, 4.55 might be 4 pawns >while program Y at 3.62 could be 5 pawns. Is this right?
