I'll tell you why _I_ did not get excited:

1. That computers are crushing players of this strength at this time control
is no longer news, and I don't find it at all interesting _anymore_.
(You can watch this every day in ICC.)
2. I _don't_ think their play was as beautiful as some have claimed. Almost
all of it was just more of the same old thing. If I cared to, I could show
you this using the game scores.
3. These programs or similar ones have earned similar performance ratings
against humans in other events.
4. I don't like Junior.

5. I was busy with several other things that I did find interesting:

a. If you want to see something exciting, this guy JRLOK is STILL beating
SCRAPPY at 5 3 or 5 7 (I think).
b. Gandalf (as val-vipp I think?) is playing closed positions noticeably
well! You can watch this about every day in ICC also. Unless I'm imagining
things, this IS news.
c. The Tigers might be displaying a new degree of purposefulness and
"understanding" in their play, and I've been studying the PGN, and watching
them on ICC, to see whether or not this is true. I think it is, based on
watching games between Tiger13 and Fritz6 on ICC, and I bought Rebel11.

d. Did you hear? Did EVERYBODY hear? There are now several GUI's in which
one can play engine-engine matches WITHOUT that old OUTRAGEOUS
HASHTABLE-CLEARING after every move. I'm not a tester. I'm just enjoying
proclaiming this LOUDLY. (There were some hot threads about this a year
or two ago. I've been away...)

e. I so inspired myself with a posting I made praising Tiger13, that I
started to play more loosely and ambitiously myself.
And MY rating has been going up in ICC!!
