By having a GM as a trainer, the programmer can set up positions for the GM to analyze, and then compare the GM's analysis with the chess engine. This way, the programmer will have some reliable data to validate the chess engine PV, otherwise how the programmer will know that the engine is assessing the position correctly, and by how much is the engine off from the true assesment.
