I agree , it's kind of amusing to watch people give sugguestions about new paradigms , new "knowledge management" systems, etc and state how they think their idea will push chess programs into super GM level..etc.. And when after some probing it turns out thye have no idea even how Alpha-beta ,beta cutoff etc works.. And they sill go on and on about how programmers are arrogant, and shut their minds to everything and that they alone have the right answer.. While of course, while what they sugguest may actually be good, it doesn't really help the argument if the poster shows that he is totally *ignorant* about how modern chess programs work. Besides while programmers might be arrogant , I think it's even more arrogant to wade into a field, without any research and reading about prior, existing knowledge and go on and offer your own " Solutions" that everyone else has somehow missed. Many of such "offered" advice are extremely vague, and unworkable, or probably are stuff that the programmers have considered tried and discarded.. That's why i often see threads where some guy sugguests some new "paradigm" of chess (not refering to the gambit tiger saga) and are joined by a few posters. generally such threads are only joined by posters who have no experience in computer chess programming (like me) but not by anyone else..And some of the posters will be fustrated and claim that programmers are arrogant and are ignoring their ideas.. > >On November 18, 2000 at 16:19:11, walter irvin wrote: > >>There are alot of really good chess programmers ,but there are a few that seem >>to have more imagination and vision and are willing to try almost anything to >>improve the game .There are 3 programs that stand out in my mind Gamit Tiger new >>attacking style , Shredder 5 ie 3 brain ,Rebel ie anti-GM and personality >>contest .These programmers are the ones that set the standard and force the >>others to get better .One of these 3 programs will win the next world >>championship .
