I have an old Berlin Pro dedicated chess computer. It still beats me like a drum but it is no longer a match for any of the good programs on even a modest PC like my Celeron 333mhz. In a 20 game set I played manually at G/30, CM6000 had beaten Berlin 18-0 with 2 draws. So it was a surprise when I began a set of games between Berlin and CM8000 at G/30. After 7 games, CM8000 is leading by 3-1, with 3 draws. And CM8000 had to fight from behind in 2 of the draws. I don't get it. Especially since a recent post I saw mentioned CM8000 leading Fritz 6a after 20 games in a closely contested G/60 match the poster was running. And in my games Berlin always loses to Fritz 6a. I must say CM8000 has been positively schizophrenic so far. It beat Berlin easily in its 3 games with White, including one where CM8000 started a forced mate in 9, beginning at move 21. But with Black, CM8000 has struggled every time. In fact, it has evaluated each of its Black positions as significanty favoring White on the first move out of book and has stayed behind for the rest of the game. So CM8000 is 3-0 with White and 0-1 with 3 draws with Black. Well, I'll keep playing and see what happens. But I am confused. eric
