The danger is to allow black to block things up and prevent b6, which means a breakthrough is not possible. At first glance, it seems that this program doesn't recognize the importance of b6 being played before it becomes impossible. The eval suggests it is simply counting material... Kb3 is the move Crafty suggests until it finds b6 at depth=15, 10 seconds on my notebook. > >Also here: >[D]1r3r1k/3p4/1p1Nn1R1/4Pp1q/pP3P1p/P7/5Q1P/6RK w - - bm Qe2; id "WAC.243"; > >1r3r1k/3p4/1p1Nn1R1/4Pp1q/pP3P1p/P7/5Q1P/6RK w - - bm Qe2; id "WAC.243"; > -> soft time limit 600 s > -> hard time limit 3600 s > 6 257 61 110321 Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Qe2-f3 Ph4-h3 > 6 -> 0:01.42 264559 0 turns > 7 254 204 387303 Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Qe2-d2 Ph4-h3 > 7 -> 0:08.86 1757317 0 turns > 8 254 973 1902210 Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Qe2-d2 Ph4-h3 Qd2-e3 Qh7-h4 > Qe3-f2 > 8 -> 0:17.37 3300980 0 turns > 9 254 2121 4093555 Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Qe2-f3 > 9 259 3214 6153670 Pb4-b5 ! > 9 270 3383 6451863 Pb4-b5 > 9 -> 0:38.63 7421150 1 turn > 10 269 6846 12630262 Pb4-b5 Rb8-d8 Qf2-e2 > 10 271 7438 13682030 Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Rg6-g5 Ne6xg5 > 10 -> 1:33.65 17203556 1 turn > 11 331 9956 18233161 Qf2-e2 !! > 11 468 10949 20323306 Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Rg6-g5 Ne6xf4 Qe2-f3 Rf8-g8 > Qf3xf4 Rb8-f8 > 11 -> 2:17.78 26311154 0 turns > 12 528 14712 27945766 Qf2-e2 !! > 12 529 16313 31039450 Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Rg6-g5 Ne6xf4 Qe2-f3 Rf8-g8 > 12 -> 4:06.73 45994530 0 turns > 13 568 29603 55104059 Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Rg6-g5 Ne6xg5 Rg1xg5 Rf8-g8 > Rg5-h5 Rg8-g4 Rh5xh7 Kh8xh7 Ph2-h3 Rg4-g3 > Qe2-h5 Kh7-g8 Qh5-f7 Kg8-h8 Qf7xf5 Rg3xa3 > Qf5xd7 > 13 -> 7:11.59 81721965 0 turns > 14 605 54851 101436945 Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Rg6-g5 Ne6xg5 Rg1xg5 Rb8-c8 > Nd6xc8 > 14 -> 15:47.81 173288633 0 turns >Depth=14, Value=605, Time=947.81, Last turn=74.38, Nodes=173288633, N/s=182830 >PV = Qf2-e2 Qh5-h7 Rg6-g5 Ne6xg5 Rg1xg5 Rb8-c8 Nd6xc8 > >It seems that Qe2 is best, but I wonder how b5 would turn out. But after b5, Crafty suggests Qh7 for black... with the score about a pawn better for black than if white had played the suggested key move.
