Hi! As others stated the incremental evaluation is an old idea. But I have an idea to you: start programming a chess program (if you already haven't)! You seem to be full of new ideas some of which might actually provide to be useful. Programming is the way to try these things, to try new concepts and algorithms. Actually I'd like to see _everyone_ here to try. This is the way to increase the chess program knowledge here in CCC. We would have less "new paradigms" and more good ideas which could really lead to implementations in programs. We would have less speculation on "knowledge based" and "bean counter" programs. This way people would actually see what knowledge means in chess programs and what affects the playing style of a program. The only way to understand how chess programs work is to program one. Severi
