Subject: CM8000 Bugs and Issues update

Author: John Merlino

Date: 14:00:31 11/22/00

This will probably be my last update until Monday.

Two new minor bugs were reported, and one other bug was fixed.

Reported:
-- There is a bug involving XBoard engines offering a draw when their opponent
is another engine. Instead of the opponent engine getting the draw offer, a
message box comes up asking the assumed HUMAN opponent if he/she accepts the
draw offer. This will be fixed in the patch.
-- It is possible to get very fast-playing personalities (such as Lacey and Max)
to "check out" (i.e. to stop responding and eventually lose on time). This is
only accomplished by having the personality leave book and then re-enter it via
a transposition in the book. The problem occurs when the engine returns a move
BEFORE the main app has a chance to check for a transpositional book move. The
engine returns a move and assumes that it is made, and the app (potentially)
makes a DIFFERENT move according to the book. The engine and the app get out of
sync, and everything after that is believed to be an illegal move. Hence, the
engine stops responding. This will also be fixed in the patch.

Fixed:
-- The aforementioned bug involving thematic and simple sounds only playing when
CM was NOT the active app has been fixed.

All other issues remain outstanding....

Thanks for your time,

jm
