Auto232, in and of itself, is a protocol that allows two GUIs on two different machines to talk to each other without any network software (via a null modem cable connected to each machine's serial port, for example). What I have been referring to as the software that is going to be tested is Remi Coulom's program, available at www-leibniz.imag.fr/~coulom. I haven't tried it because I do not have two machines. jm
