That's also how I got into game tree search. Still have a
checkers program lying around in Object Pascal with MTD(n,f),
ETC, hashtables, forward pruning etc...

It didn't have endgame databases but it was able to draw
Chinook in some games on my Cyrix120.

The level of checkers programs is probably a lot lower than
the level of chessprograms. I wouldn't even dream of Sjeng
drawing DeepBlue on that hardware ;)
