I bought a set of 10 CDs with complete Nalimov tablebases through 5 piece end games, I understand - bought from German chess club over Internet some time ago and no documentation at all. They were in the format xxx.xxx.emd. First dots before the nbb, etc, and last dot before the emd extension. I put them on my HD, 220 files, 5.63GB. I changed chessbase.ini path to point to directory where they were located, and cache to 8MB (8192). F6/CB8 could not read them; crashed program in CB8 when I tried to initialize engine for analysis, and F6 would not open at all. I compared the CD files with Nalimov tablebases on F6 CD and Gandalf 4.32 CD and only difference I could discern was the first dot. I deleted the first dot on all files, leaving only the dot before the emd extension, and still F6/CB8 could not read. I then copied the F6 CD and additional Gandalf 4.32 CD tablebase files to separate directory, changing chessbase.ini as required and everything works fine. Tried on various end games and the analysis window from time to time would give a tb reference, and calculate mate in 42 etc. Anyone know about these Nalimov tablebases with the extra dot in the file name? F6 recommends 1-8MB cache. I have Athlon 750, 384MB RAM. I assume this is a RAM cache?? If so shouldn’t I use a much higher cache, like 32MB for faster speed? Anyone try the TB generator in F6? Just wondering how fast it generates tables, etc. I understand the three CD set from CB has all 3,4,5 piece end games. That must be around 1.8 GIG, much less in size than I got. Maybe the 10 CDs I got go up to six piece end games? Thanks!! Chris
