The "big lead" of 350,000 votes in the popular vote is all due to the 1,200,000
lead that Gore got in the California election.  That means, if you know how to
add and subtract, that in actuality  Mr. Gore did not get any majority in the
other 50 states. In addition,  the number of counties US-wide that voted for
Bush outnumbered Gore over 4 to 1.  Just look at a voter map of the election at
a site like  http://www.voter.com   That is why we have an electoral college.

If the population of California was 150,000,000 and the rest of the country were
100,000,000  would the will of the "people" be accomplished if the other 50
states were out-voted by one mega-state?   Do we care what 1.5 billion Chinese
want us to do?   The will of the people is more than raw numbers.
