This kind of thing happens. It might be due to the database software, but probably not. More likely it is a Windows bug, or maybe just plain bad luck. Power failure, or other incorrect shutdown, can do damage to the data structures on the disc, which (sometimes much later) can cause files to be lost. Then there is hardware failure to be considered as well. The lesson is, always have a backup of everything important. Files on your computer WILL be lost or damaged occasionally.
