The simplest way to improve tactis seems to be to do full width search in the first 5, 6 or even 7 plys. You ensure nothing vital slip away. Then follows extensions along the nodes where high scores are on stake or they change dramatically. I suppose that a rule of thumb is to concentrate full witdht search for pieces whose action concentrates in the king area: attacks, sacrifices, etc happens there 90% of cases or are the most dangerous. Yes, this is common stuff, like the wheel, but sometimes you forget... Fernando
