I have lived in Washington (Seattle area) for only about five months or so, but I can name several violent acts that have occurred in the East-Side alone (not downtown Seattle for people unfamiliar with the area). There was the robber shot to death in the mall in a department store bathroom and just a week or so ago there was a stalker going around and breaking into people's apartments not far from here. A friend of mine also had someone try to break into their house last week. However, as you go on to note, this is still far better than some other parts of the country (say California, which is where I am from). Sam
