I haven't read all the other responses, so I may be repeating what someone else has already said. Oh well. My suggestion is that you get a nifty little program called CPUIdle. It has the option to shut itself off when there's a high CPU load. Certain video games, e.g., MDK2, have problems with programs like rain, etc., that send HLT commands, but CPUIdle will shut off when you need full power. If you run Windows 2000, however, you don't need one of these programs. HLT is built into the kernel. Or so I've read. John
