Hello,

it is definately very bad to upgrade (install Win 2000 over Win 98).
I dont know if your problem is because of that, but its important to install new
Win 2000 and not upgrade from Win 9x. I have heared on several problems if you
do that.
And, if you install new, you get a fresh system.
