At the Yahoo Chess Kamikazes club we had a very lengthy discussion about white's first move advantage. The discussion was nice and long but I still stand with my opinion that there is a statistical advantage for the white player. Look at a big database, like CB Big 2000, and you'll see 37/34/29% as scores white won/draw/black won. Statistical I say, and IMO that means it can say little for the individual game. It is very well possible to win a game with black against a certain person with the same strenght as yourself, yet losing it with white, as you can say nothing about the single happening. Yet the more games all chess players play, the more you will see a little advantage for white. With computer programs playing a lot more stable I don't feel it to be a surprise those figures will turn up at less lower numbers. And if it's 50 or 500 games, I can't say. Jeroen ;-}
