Main effect is that you can return scores outside alpha/beta.  When you
fail high (or low) at the root, this can give you an "estimate" of how
far to widen the window.  I tried it, but don't use it at present,
because
it made debugging confusing.

It did not speed me up or slow me down a measurable amount, however...
