In the election for the swedish parliament 1976 there was a tie in the sense that the socialistic parties got as many seats as the non-socialistic parties (175 - 175). No recount had be done since it was just a matter of handing out seats to the parties (we have more than two you know :) and it happened to be a perfect balance between the two sides. However, the "coin flipping" took place after the election because when a vote in the parliament ended in the result 175 -175 (and it often did) they put two notes (yes/no) in a box and drew one :) This won't happen again as the number of seats now is 349...
