I am not totally certain, but I allways believed they stand for endgame
table bases. These table bases store the results of all positions of a
certain endgame. I.e. you can probe the KPK table base, and it may tell
you, this is a mate in 15, or this is a draw. Table Bases of all 3,4 and 5 men
endgames and also of some 6 men endgames are available at Robert Hyatt's ftp
server.

The only thing I know, is the ftp server of Robert Hyatt - from memory
ftp.cis.uab.edu. There will be a tbgen subdirectory, with the table base
generator and some documentation.
