http://www.deja.com/home_ps.shtml is a link to deja news. Newsgroups are an excellent source for solving windows related problems. For example doing a search for "mfc42.dll windowsME" produced 13 hits with persons sharing their ideas on how to solve problems with the mfc42.dll file. Here is one sample quote from that link with someone offering help to a similar problem as yours ... "I wouldn't be surprised if MFC42.dll in \windows\system is different (probably newer) than the one your groupwise expects. This has been an ongoing problem as versions of Microsoft Foundation Classes version 4.2 (MFC42.dll ) have not always been fully regressively compatible. The usual solution is often to have a second MFC42.dll in the program's directories where it will find it first, but sometimes a registry or program init entry needs to be changed." - from Deja News From me now ... If you try to put an older version (WIN98se as an example) of mfc42.dll in the fritz directory you can test to see if Fritz is using it by snooping in the directory C:\Windows\Applog\*.lgc, where * is Fritz or whatever chessbase uses. The Fritz.lgc file can be opened with the text editor Wordpad.
