The difference is that noone is at the receiving end, suffering from uninformed
opinions and lack of fact in numerous posts. This thread, or at least the few
messages I've read, are of a friendly nature. And it probably won't last that
long, making it a limited inconveniance for those not interested in the topic.

So applying rules of nonconfrontational content and limited timespan to
decisions about off topic posting seems reasonable. Agreeing on a few guidelines
among the moderators as suggested by Sarah doesn't seem unreasonable. It's not a
UN decision after all.

Just wait a while and let the different threads evolve before making a judgement
either way. It's not too difficult to see when a thread is heading in a wrong
direction. And if you're in doubt, wipe it out :o)).
