You seem to have no clue how retailing works in the real world.

At least 50% of the price paid by the end customer goes to the
retailer. Of the remaining net revenue garnered by the publisher,
authors get 5% to 15% royalties -- all depending on the number
of copies/items sold (mostly there is a progression towards
higher percentages with more copies/items sold).

These principles and royalty percentages hold for all established
publishers I know (this was not my first book). But please feel
free to send me the contact address of one giving more to authors.

Overall, you are totally right that it is impossible to make a
living from writing scientific and/or technical specialty books.
Only the publishers and retailers earn money from these.

Yet, the upcoming trend of ebooks and printing on demand might
especially change this scene and field radically.
